A temporary patch to fix the hole in the Manasquan Inlet bulkhead wall failed during Tuesday’s bad weather.

Another section of the wall broke off Tuesday afternoon. The breach was noticed when construction crews came out to check on the wall’s status.

The Point Pleasant Beach town engineer and mayor say that they are trying to come up with a strategy to fix the wall, which was put into place in the 1990s.

A new bulkhead is scheduled to be built by the end of the year, but crews are still working on ways to protect the beach in the meantime.

The wall was badly damaged during the March Nor’easter. The area lost about 200 cubic yards of sand. Officials say that the sand cannot be replaced right now due to the extra pressure it would add to crumbling wall.

The Point Pleasant beach mayor is expected to speak with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Wednesday.
