Manager: Police impersonator robbed convenience store
The Newark Police Department is trying to track down a man who robbed a store in the city by impersonating a police officer.
El Rincon Supermarket manager Juan Luis Rozon says that a man dressed like a police officer came into the store and accused him of selling loose cigarettes.
"He wanted to take all my cigarettes," says Rozon. "I said, 'No, you cannot take my cigarettes.'"
The police impersonator demanded to see Rozon's license to sell cigarettes. When Rozon went into the back of the store to get it, the man allegedly stole money out of the register.
The man came back to the store the next day, but Rozon suspected something was wrong and called the real police.
The incident was caught on the shop's surveillance camera. The man was wearing a police hat, vest and gun.
The suspect is described as 6 feet, 2 inches and 220 pounds. He left the store in a black SUV with the last two digits of the license plate 44.
Anyone who may have any information about the incident is urged to contact the Newark Police Department.
