Man accused of running phony Sept. 11 charity
A Jefferson Township man has been accused of running a phony 9-11 charity.
Fred Parisi was arrested over the weekend at a supposed charity event.
Parisi was allegedly running a scam, convincing people to donate funds to a phony foundation to benefit Sept. 11 rescue workers. Police say Parisi distributed collection boxes to stores throughout the state for donations.
Authorities are continuing to investigate what Parisi did with the donations. As of this point, he's only been charged with fraud in connection to a non-charity-related business deal.
At least two future events Parisi was involved with will go on as planned, as the other organizers insist the money is being distributed to legitimate charities.
