A man accused of raping a teen in her Southampton bedroom has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.
In August 2016, Southampton was shocked by what police called a "vicious sexual attack" and robbery of a teenage girl inside her home. Officers quickly arrested 20-year-old Marvin Siciliano-Nunez, an undocumented immigrant. He was convicted of threatening the teen with a baseball bat and raping her.
According to the assistant district attorney, the victim was able to fool Nunez into letting her go briefly to another part of the house. She bolted out the front door and found a neighbor who called police.
Facing the judge and Siciliano-Nunez, the now 20-year-old unidentified victim said, "There are no words to describe how awful that day was…my school work suffered, I was angry, I experienced sadness and helplessness. All I could do was cry. This trauma I will carry with me the rest of my life."
In response, Judge Peter Mayer told the victim, "Your courage and strength was welcome in this court."
Siciliano-Nunez did not speak in court. His attorneys say they plan to file an appeal later this month.
According to the district attorney's office, Nunez will be immediately deported to his native El Salvador after serving his sentence.
