A teenage cancer survivor got the surprise of a lifetime to celebrate his remission.
When Conor Wesch was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year, he had a simple wish. He wanted his 2006 Chevy Impala, a gift from his grandfather, to be fixed up.
The Newfield High School senior's wish came true when he received his new and improved ride in front of his family and friends at the school's homecoming football game.
"Just to know that they all were here – just an amazing feeling to know that they all care, that they all support me in what I went through and how happy they are for me now," Wesch said. "Just means so much to me."
Wesch's request was granted by Make-A-Wish Suffolk County. Officials from the charity say the value of the total upgrade was more than $10,000.
"To put a smile on someone's face after they've had many dark and scary days is such a rewarding experience for everyone who knows him and goes to school with him," said Karine Hollander, of Make-A-Wish Suffolk County.
The Chevy is now equipped with a booming sound system and outfitted with jet black leather interior. The teen also has new blue rims and a custom name plate in his trunk.
Wesch says his first trip in his new car will be to the beach.
