A high school football coach from Bergen County town was arrested today for allegedly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former female student.
Lyndhurst High School teacher and head football coach Scott Rubinetti, 39, was led out of the school in handcuffs today. He's facing charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, officials say.
Rubinetti was hired in 2009 and allegedly committed the crimes during the 2009-2010 school year.
Prosecutors say another teacher learned of the possible relationship between the coach and the former student and reported it to the superintendent. Police say the alleged victim confirmed the sexual abuse happened while she was a senior.
During the course of the investigation, Rubinetti is alleged to have contacted the victim and told her to lie to law enforcement if questioned. For that, he's also facing a charge of witness tampering, officials say.
No one was at the coach's Nutley home today to comment. Lyndhurst's school superintendent wasn't available for comment this evening.
