A Lindenhurst teen accused of driving while high on drugs pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in a double fatal crash from 2017.
Police say David O’Brien was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang southbound on North Wellwood Avenue when he lost control and struck a fire hydrant, then a tree. The incident occurred on Oct. 9, 2017 at 5:20 a.m.
Joseph Galdorisi, 16, was in the front seat at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in the back seat was pronounced dead after being transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.
O’Brien, who was 17 at the time of the crash, and back-seat passenger Daniel Ozarowski, 16, were also transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious injuries.
The Lindenhurst teen is facing 17 criminal counts, including aggravated vehicular homicide. Authorities say O’Brien had marijuana and Xanax in his system after the incident.
He was released on $150,000 bond. If convicted on the top count, O’Brien faces 25 years in prison.
Anthony Galdorisi, Joseph’s father, said O’Brien deserves life in prison.
“Two fatalities. I don’t care if he’s only 18. He’s alive. My son is in the ground.”
