Some beaches across New Jersey are unable to open their waters to swimmers due to a shortage in lifeguards.
Ocean County Park’s swimming lake in Lakewood will remain closed for the rest of the summer. The Asbury Park Press reported the beach closed for the season because it's been harder to find lifeguards.
Ocean County commissioners say this is the first time one of their beaches needed to close for an entire season.
Several beach towns at the start of the season told News 12 that the oceanfront beaches would not see a problem with lifeguard shortages. So if you're looking for open swimming areas, you will find it in those coastal areas.
However, some parents with younger toddlers say they don't want to go to the crowds, and the risks which come with ocean beaches and they prefer lakes.
The lake at Manahawkin's A. Paul King Park, which also run by the Ocean County Park system, is still open for swimming.
