Law clerk punished for comments about trooper death
A New Jersey law clerk is taking some heat after some comments she allegedly made online sparked outrage among the law enforcement community.
Leslie Anderson is a law clerk for Judge Travis Francis. She was suspended for two weeks with pay while controversial comments she allegedly made on a News 12 New Jersey report about the death of a state trooper are investigated.
Under the comments section of a News 12 New Jersey report on the death of New Jersey State Trooper Anthony Raspa, Anderson allegedly wrote that his death was "Not that sad, and certainly not tragic. Troopers were probably driving at a dangerously high speed as per usual. Totally preventable. At least they didn't take any of the citizens they are sworn to serve and protect out with them."
Trooper Raspa was killed over the weekend when the car he and his partner were driving in hit a deer on I-195 in Freehold and then crashed into a tree. Raspa was killed. His partner was hurt, but survived.
Other commenters on the article called Anderson out for her comments, saying they were insensitive and inappropriate.
Anderson then allegedly posted more comments, engaging with her critics.
"The outcry and thank you's are absurd, nonsensical and completely unwarranted," she supposedly wrote, and even seemed to show more sympathy for the "mommy or daddy or baby deer" that died.
The comments have since been deleted from the article, but not before various members of law enforcement made screen grabs and circulated them through social media.
Anderson has since deleted her Facebook Page. News 12 New Jersey went to Anderson's home, but was told she was not home and would not be commenting.
