Lavallette is canceling the early selling of their beach badges, set for this weekend, due to low staffing because of coronavirus.
The news comes off a record summer for badge sales. Lavallette Mayor Walter LaCicero says the virus has sickened several borough employees.
"Unfortunately, we've got two issues,” says Mayor LaCicero. “We've got issues obtaining the actual badges because of COVID issues with the manufacturers. We've got our own issues here within the borough hall. Several of our employees tested positive and we have the secondary exposure, so we are really down on manpower.”
Regulars begin stocking up on discounted badges just in time for the holidays, but the town announced on its website that the sales will have to wait at least a few more weeks.
It’s a huge money maker for the town this time of year, and one of the most popular holiday gifts, but due to staff shortages and the amount of manpower needed for the holiday presale, it will have to wait.
The town still plans on offering the same discount offers at a later time.
