A replica of the Statue of Liberty was welcomed Wednesday morning to New Jersey at Port Elizabeth after a weeklong journey from France.
She was greeted by Gov. Phil Murphy, French Ambassador Philippe Etienne, the Port Authority chairman, and the CMA CGM president.
She followed the same path her sister did back in 1885, and today, more than a century later is a reminder of the friendship between the U.S. and France.
"This little sister is really a little sister because it was made of the mold of the sculpture created by who made the Statue of Liberty,” says Etienne. “It's so important because the world is changing but our common fight to defend our freedom and democracy remains as important as it was inside our society and in the world."
The replica will stand facing her sister through the Fourth of July. Eventually, she'll make her way to the French ambassador’s home in Washington, D.C. just in time for Bastille Day.
