If you've ever had to deal with robocalls promising you a free cruise, you could be getting up to $900, as part of a legal settlement.
The settlement stems from a class-action lawsuit against Resort Marketing Group, which called consumers on behalf of Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. It’s illegal for telemarketers to call customers without their consent, although companies are rarely caught, and many are located overseas.
Consumers who received the recorded calls during a five-year period could get up to $300 per call, up to $900 per phone line. The actual numbers could be lower, depending on how many claims are received.
To find out if you qualify for a settlement, go HERE and plug in your phone number on the “File a Claim” page.
Kane In Your Corner set up shop at a strip mall in Edison to tell customers about the settlement and volunteered to check their phone numbers to see if they were eligible.
Peggy Witos, who says she hates robocalls so much that she makes a point to report each one to the government’s Do Not Call Registry, was one of the lucky ones who did. Asked what she might do with her windfall, Witos jokingly suggested, “I can go on a cruise!”
