The acting police chief in Keyport will stay on the job, despite a controversy that began when he wrote a police report accusing the borough administrator of a hit-and-run accident.
By a vote of five to one, the borough council voted to keep Chief George Casaletto on the job. Casaletto has been acting chief since last year.
The council took almost three hours of closed-door deliberations to decide to keep Casaletto rather than replace him with another officer.
News 12 New Jersey first mentioned Casaletto's police report in a Kane In Your Corner investigation earlier this year.
