Judge orders charges filed against Amtrak engineer in deadly Philadelphia derailment
A judge has ordered the Philadelphia district attorney to file charges against the Amtrak engineer involved in a deadly train derailment.
The order comes just days after prosecutors announced that no charges would be filed against Brandon Bostian in the 2015 crash.
The judge said that Bostian can be charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
The National Transportation Safety Board ruled that Bostian’s attention was diverted to an emergency involving another train just prior to the crash. Investigators found the train was traveling at 100 mph just 16 seconds before it crashed.
Eight people were killed in the derailment, including one person from New Jersey. More than 200 others were injured.
