A state Superior Court judge went above the mayor of West New York and gave the green light for the Cuban Day Parade to march through his town.
Mayor Sal Vega has said in the past two weeks that he will not allow the Cuban Day Parade through his town. However, after the judge?s decision, Vega made it clear he will not violate the judge?s orders.
Vega has maintained that parade organizers are not running a legitimate parade. The attorney representing the town told the judge that parade organizers fraudulently claimed the march would raise money for scholarships.
?They have not opened their books to show what they have done with the hundreds of thousands of dollars that they collected in the name of Cuba,? Vega said. ?We?ll bring that information, following the judge?s advice, to the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office.?
Parade organizers have said Vega is against the parade for political reasons.
Even though Vega is not getting what he hoped for, he said Cubans in the town have received more justice in a single day then they received in the past 48 years.
The parade is set to take place Sunday, June 3.
