Judge denies probation request for Holland Tunnel ‘vigilante’
A Hudson County judge has denied a request from a Pennsylvania gun range owner who faces prison time for having guns inside his pick-up truck when he was stopped outside the Holland Tunnel last year.
John Cramsey pleaded guilty to two weapons charges earlier this year and was seeking probation, instead of jail time, citing health concerns.
The judge denied this request, but delayed his sentencing hearing while Cramsey’s attorney appeals the decision.
Cramsey and two other people were pulled over outside the Holland Tunnel in June 2016. They were riding in a large pick-up truck with decals advertising Cramsey’s gun business. Port Authority police found a variety of guns and ammunition inside the truck.
Cramsey said that he was heading to New York to rescue a woman from a drug den. Cramsey had become a drug addiction advocate after his own daughter died of a drug overdose. He claimed that he did not realize the weapons were inside the car at the time.
Cramsey’s two co-defendants avoided trial by agreeing to a deal that entered them into a pretrial intervention program.
