Recent disruptions at John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson have some parents and students demanding answers.
On Thursday, police say students pulled a fire alarm at the school and interrupted classes. Authorities say during the incident, a fight broke out, forcing police to spray mace into a crowd of students.
Last month, a riot broke out at the school allegedly because students were protesting the school?s new block scheduling. In a video posted on YouTube, students can be heard chanting ?no more blocks? after a fire alarm was pulled.
Parents say they feel the school administration is not handling the situation very well. School board member Dr. Joseph Atallo says JFK Principal Irby Miller is doing all he can. Atallo believes the superintendent needs to do more. He also believes a discipline plan needs to be created to set students straight.
Meanwhile, Miller held a closed-door meeting with parents Thursday night. Miller released a statement to News 12 New Jersey that acknowledged the mace incident with police. Miller also insisted the school is not out of control.
