Jackson Twp. mayor proposes change to MONOC
Some Jackson Township residents are a little uneasy after hearing a proposal that would change their ambulance service.
The Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service Corporation, or MONOC, is a non-profit that receives a stipend from the town for its service. MONOC provides basic emergency services to the township from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The town?s first aid volunteer squad takes over emergency services at night.
The mayor has proposed replacing MONOC with a paid municipal squad run out of the Jackson Township Police Department. The mayor believes this proposed arrangement would improve response times.
The town council has formed an advisory committee made up of residents and MONOC representatives. The committee will research response time data and give its input about the proposal. The mayor says there will be public meetings on the issue before any changes are made.
