Powerful thunderstorms tore through New Jersey Thursday evening, triggering multiple tornado warnings, producing heavy amounts of rain and knocking out power to thousands.
The storms started around 5 p.m. in northwestern New Jersey and traveled southeast, drenching the state in several inches of rain.
Multiple areas of the state saw major flooding. Strong winds caused trees and utility lines to fall. Several thousand utility customers were left without power at the height of the storm.
The National Weather Service will have to come out to determine how much damage around the state was caused by tornadoes, but multiple state residents reported seeing funnel clouds in southern New Jersey.
