Students returned to Nutley Public Schools Monday following a recent threat that prompted officials to cancel classes heading into the district’s winter break.
School officials said extra security was in place Monday, specifically at Nutley High School, which was the focus of a threat made on Instagram.
Authorities said the threat surfaced a day after the deadly shooting at a Florida high school.
Joseph Rafanello, 18, is now banned from Nutley High School and charged with creating a false public alarm in connection with the social media video post, police said.
Nutley Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Julie Glazer said in a written statement that counselors will be available Monday to all students and staff.
