An emergency strategy session was held Thursday night in Sunset Park in light of the recent ICE raids.
City agencies and elected officials held the session to try and inform the immigrant community in our borough what their rights are.
It's being called a rapid response strategy session, and organizers say as ICE raids are expected to continue in the city, they want immigrants to have the proper resources to help them.
The session was organized by Rep. Nydia Velázquez, state Sen. Zellnor Myrie, Councilmember Carlos Menchaca and various city agencies.
Hundreds of people packed the auditorium to learn and understand what can be done. Representatives from the mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, ThriveNYC, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office and others talked about what resources immigrants can use, and what rights they have. It comes in response worried people in Sunset Park who fear their neighbors or friends will be arrested or deported. Rep. Velázquez says it's important people know that Sunset Park stands behind the immigrant community in the area.
City officials say if someone spots any ICE in their community to call 311 and let the city know.
