I-Team Investigates: Wyndham Place Condos
Homeowners at the Wyndham Place condos say they can?t get needed repairs performed and they don?t even know if they have a board of directors to complain to.
After the News 12 New Jersey I-Team investigated, it found maintenance was the least of the problems. The I-Team found Wyndham Place violated several rules, including not holding regular board meetings and technically not having a homeowners? board.
Bylaws state the complex must have five members on the homeowners? board. However, Wyndham only has two members and the president doesn?t even live in New Jersey full time. The rules also state there must be at least one meeting a year, but no one knows for sure when the last one took place.
Rutgers law professor Frank Askin is an expert on homeowners? association law. Askin says while most condos don?t have the problems Wyndham has, there isn?t much legal protection for homeowners.
The property manager at Wyndham, Richard Gatto, abruptly resigned. Requests by the I-Team to speak with Gatto went unanswered.
The condo president says he is working to address the homeowners? complaints from his residence in Florida. He says he is trying to recruit a new manager and new board members in an effort to remedy the issues. He also told the I-Team that he realizes he is in violation of the rules and once he recruits the appropriate people, he will resign.
