Hundreds of New Jersey couples may be another step closer to getting the wedding photos and videos they feared were lost.
Attorneys for Celebration Studios now say the company will not file for bankruptcy protection. The wedding company closed weeks ago, saying it has financial troubles. Hundreds of couples claimed they paid for a product they never received before the company closed.
The state Attorney General?s Office got involved last week and stated it would sue the company for allegedly violating the state?s consumer fraud act. Over the weekend, the Division of Consumer Affairs seized photos and videos from Celebration Studios in hopes of eventually returning them to brides and grooms.
The attorney for the company says the Attorney General?s Office asked Celebration Studios not to file for bankruptcy protection. He says the attorney general indicated the state could better handle the situation. The Attorney General?s Office says it never asked the company not to declare bankruptcy. It says the company made that decision on its own.
