A number of teams participated in the ultimate strength test at Newark Liberty International Airport during the annual Plane Pull to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.
Teams of 20 worked together to try and pull a jetliner across the tarmac.
Event coordinator Sue Parsons tells News 12 that the event has been going on for 22 years.
"The first one we did had 18 teams and we only raised $14,000," says Parsons. "Ever since then, it's just grown every year."
The plane used during the event was a Boeing 737 that weighs 93,000 pounds without passengers.
Robert Sanger, of the Fairfield Police Department, told News 12 that he has participated in the event for 17 years.
"We've gotten faster," Sanger said. "This year is actually our fastest time ever."
Parsons says the teams had to move the plane 12 feet as fast as they could. They then got a chance to see which team was the strongest by seeing how far they could pull it in two minutes.
The Plane Pull is a part of Airport Day hosted by Port Authority. It was co-sponsored by United Airlines and the Port Authority of New York and New Jew Jersey.
The event raised $130,000 for the Special Olympics.
