Truckloads of food are headed to needy families Saturday with the help of the Holmdel Cub Scouts food drive.Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts nationwide are collecting food for the hungry as part of a program called Scouting for Hunger throughout the month of November. Saturday, two Holmdel Cub Scout packs took their mission to their local grocery stores. Grocery carts were filled with personal care items, boxed goods and canned fruits and vegetables.Holmdel Cub Scouts are trying to break last year?s collection record of 4,000 pounds of food. Cubmaster Tom Wood says the program helps kids understand that their efforts can make a difference when it comes to helping others in need.
