The hit-and-run driver who mowed down and killed an 18-year-old in Levittown one month ago remains on the loose.
Saturday marks one month since the driver of a red pickup truck fled the scene after running over and killing Taranjit Parmar in Levittown. Surveillance video shows the leadup to the death, which started with a minor fender-bender at the exit of Ultra gas station at Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners Avenue.
The two then pulled back into the gas station. Police say the driver of the red pickup went to leave the scene and struck Parmar, pulling her under the car and killing her. The truck then fled the scene.
As News 12 has reported, Parmar was an honors student at Adelphi and on her way home from school when she was killed. Her father told News 12 last month that Parmar was on her phone when she was killed.
News 12 returned to the scene of the incident today with Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, the head of Nassau’s homicide unit. Fitzpatrick says they are making progress in the case and have received numerous Crime Stoppers tips about red pickup trucks.
“We’re looking at this time of year to give justice to this family,” says Fitzpatrick. “We want to bring this person in and find out what happened.”
The incident happened just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 – a time when the intersection is busy. Police believe there are other witnesses who saw what happened. A Crime Stoppers van and flashing billboard remain at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS
