Memorial Day weekend is considered to be the unofficial start to summer. But Monday marked the real start to the summer season and many New Jerseyans headed down to the Jersey Shore to take in a day at the beach.
“Now the season will really start kicking off once the kids are all out of school and the families start coming down. You’ll see a big turnaround during the week,” says Avon Pavilion general manager Lisa Hosley.
While business owners at the Shore are looking forward to the summer crowds, some locals are not as enthused.
“It’s more crowded. We live in Neptune and traffic gets very congested,” says Melissa Simmons of Neptune.
Temperatures on Monday reached the low-90s. Thunderstorms were expected to roll in by Monday night.
