The grandmother of a 3-year-old girl who was found dead in the Passaic River over the weekend has spoken out for the first time to News 12 New Jersey.
Authorities say Juan Mendez, 21, left his family's Passaic home early Saturday morning in a rage with his niece, 3-year-old Janiay Rievas. Police are searching for Mendez, who they say tossed the child off the Gregory Avenue Bridge.
Eileen Camejo, Mendez?s mother, says she doesn?t understand what happened.
"He loves [Janiay] like a father. I don't understand what happened in his brain to do something like that,? Camejo says. ?I cannot understand.?
