Neighbors say a costly fire at a Grand Concourse apartment building was intentionally set by a regular visitor.
Police arrested Chris Hedrick in connection with the blaze at 840 Grand Concourse. He is being charged with arson, reckless endangerment, criminal trespassing and other charges.
Neighbors believe an early morning dispute prompted Hedrick to set the fire in an apartment owned by the mother of his ex-girlfriend. Hedrick was described by building regulars as an unstable visitor to the complex.
Nereida Torres has lived in her apartment, which was damaged in the fire, for 49 years. According to Torres, Hedrick made repeated threats to set fire to the location.
Officials say the fire caused 14 minor injuries, mostly to police and firefighters. Tenants say the flames destroyed thousands of dollars worth of belongings.
