Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency ahead of the arrival of Isaias.

Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a state of emergency ahead of the arrival of Isaias.
The state of emergency went into effect at 5 a.m., and allows resources to be deployed during and after the storm comes through.

In a tweet, the governor says, “UPDATE: I am declaring a STATEWIDE STATE OF EMERGENCY for Hurricane Isaias effective at 5:00 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.”
The governor warns people to not to be on the roads unless it is absolutely necessary.
If residents must drive, he says they should take it slow, use caution and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.
In a statement, he says, “The safety of our residents is our main priority, and we urge everyone to be informed of local weather conditions and to stay off the roads."
State offices are also closed today.
