Gov. Phil Murphy has announced his picks to run the Garden State's new Cannabis Regulatory Commission after voters approved legalizing marijuana.
Dianna Houenou has been appointed chair of the commission and Jeff Brown will serve as the executive director.
It comes just days after New Jersey voters approved a ballot measure to legalize adult recreational marijuana in the state.
The commission will provide oversight to the soon-to-be established recreational marijuana marketplace.
It will also regulate the medical marijuana program.
"As happy as I am about results of the vote, I would be remiss if I didn't remind us all that this is just the first step," Houenou says. "Now that we have put ourselves on the right path, we must ensure the next steps we take to right the wrongs of the past."
The Legislature must come up with the rules and regulations for legal marijuana.
The appointed commission will eventually have five members.
