Gov. Corzine gives 2007 wrap-up speech
Gov. Jon Corzine discussed the 2007 highlights of his administration and goals for next year at the governor?s mansion Thursday.
In addition to discussing advancements in issues such as ethics and health care reform, Corzine said that property taxes are a major concern for residents of New Jersey. The governor said he will continue to work on ways to decrease them in the new year.
?When you have a heavy property tax burden, we are not satisfied, but we are moving in the right direction,? said Corzine.
The governor is also optimistic that school property taxes will continue to decrease as they have this past year.
?We saw a break in school property tax levy rates, going from over 6 percent over the better part of the last seven years down to 4.4 percent this year,? the governor said. ?I think you'll see that go lower next year with the steps we're taking with the school funding formula and the steps were taking on reform.?
Corzine also signed several bills into law Thursday including a law to regulate donation clothing bins and a measure requiring schools to conduct fire safety drills during the summer.
