Good Samaritan saves woman's life, gets robbed in Edison
A Piscataway man came to the rescue at the Edison train station Friday morning after a fellow commuter fell onto the tracks – but he was robbed of his possessions in the process.
On a busy Friday morning, just seconds before the 7:49 a.m. train pulled into Edison station, Anil Vennavalai saw a young woman faint and fall onto the tracks. He dropped his backpack, jumped down onto the tracks, and pulled her to safety on the opposite platform with the help of three other people.
The woman, who Vennavalai knows from his workplace, fractured her knee and broke her ankle. She told Vennavalai that she fainted after rushing to make the train without stopping to eat or drink anything.
Anil says during the rescue, his backpack was stolen. Inside was his work laptop, $200 in cash, three sets of headphones and his pass for the PATH train.
He's holding out hope that someone will turn in his bag to an NJ Transit station. He says its worth the loss since he helped a friend in need.
