Gas station owners want Milgram's resignation
New Jersey gas station owners are demanding Attorney General Anne Milgram?s resignation unless she recants summertime allegations they had been scamming customers.
Milgram accused 350 gas stations of scamming customers back in June during the gas crisis.
The New Jersey Gasoline, Convenience Store and Automotive Association (NJGCA) says a review of case documents shows most violations were minor and many were inaccurate. Sal Risalvato, head of the NJGCA, says all the charges are misleading.
?The violations do not rise to being dishonest or scamming or cheating,? he says. ?The attorney general, by putting them on that list and circulating it publicly, has wronged and damaged any gasoline retailer that appears on the list.?
Late last month, Milgram?s office exonerated 10 gas stations from charges made over the summer.
?My reply was you have about 340 more to go,? says Risalvato.
The attorney general?s office says it does not consider many of the allegations ?minor.? The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs claims the NJGCA has not provided specific information showing additional stations did not have violations.
