Friends and family of fallen Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago held a fundraiser in his memory Friday night.
The fundraiser was held at Bayonne Lanes where Santiago used to bowl every Sunday with his family.
Santiago was shot and killed while responding to a robbery at a 24-hour pharmacy of Communipaw Avenue in July.
The bowling tournament fundraiser will raise money for the Dream Fund, which Santiago's family started after his death. The money raised will help buy equipment for new police recruits.
The Santiago family says nearly $11,000 was raised before the tournament ever started. They hope to raise between $15,000 and $20,000 for the fund.
