Faces, house to light up when Marine comes home
A family in Bergen County has been waiting for months for one Christmas present, and they have a surprise waiting for him.
Marine Lance Cpl. David Dumbrowski is set to arrive back in Bergen County sometime over the weekend. After seven months in Iraq, the 21-year-old soldier will return to a house decorated with more than 400 lights on the roof alone. "I think he'll love it," says the Marine's grandmother, Gabriella Najawko.
Najawko heard about a surprise holiday light program by Christmas Décor, an organization that sets up decorations across the country for returning soldiers. Darlene Dumbrowski, the Marine's mother, says she typically doesn't go overboard with holiday decorations, but this Christmas is a special occasion. "Anything for my son," she says.
Darlene says the lights will serve as a reminder to the sacrifice all Marines make and that she will remember the soldiers who couldn't come home when looking at the decorations.
The family plans on taking David to pick out a Christmas tree after he sees the decorations.
