Ex-Mayor Bloomberg defends stop-and-frisk during speech
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg defended the use of stop-and-frisk Tuesday.
Speaking in Annapolis, Maryland, Bloomberg, who has yet officially announced a run for the White House in 2020 despite widespread speculation, said the policy was critical in cutting crime across the five boroughs.
"The way stop-and-frisk worked, was that you went to a place where there was somebody that had been murdered, and in that place, or recently in that place, and that's where you looked for kids who might have a gun,” said Bloomberg. “What we did was, we focused on fighting the NRA, we focused on keeping kids from going through the correctional system, where they just came out worse than when they came in."
