The family of an elderly Newark man says he was assaulted by a neighbor's relative, all because he didn't give the young woman a dollar.
According to Malika Braxton, her 77-year-old grandfather, Hezekiah Dixon, was in his apartment when a neighbor's relative asked him for a dollar. When he refused, Braxton says the young woman hit him, tied a phone cord around his neck, dragged him out of his wheelchair and into a closet, before stealing his money and leaving.
Braxton says even though he knew his alleged assailant, what happened was a home invasion and that security failed to protect her grandfather, who is now hospitalized. Newark police say they are actively investigating the incident.
