Elderly man shoots wife, self in Toms River hospital
(AP) -Toms River police say an elderly man shot his ailing wife to death in her bed at Community Medical center this afternoon before turning the gun on himself.
Chief Michael Mastronardy says the 88-year-old man was incritical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. Shortly afterthe shooting occurred, he was airlifted to the trauma center atJersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Mastronardy wouldn't release the names of the shooter or hiswife, pending notification of relatives.
And it wasn't immediately clear what the 87-year-old woman wasbeing treated for.
Mastronardy says the couple lived in Holiday City, a retirementcommunity in nearby Berkeley Township.
