It has been a busy morning so far for DPW crews across New Jersey, including Belmar, as they prepare for a lot of rain and wind heading our way.
Several inches of rain, as well as winds gusting higher than 40 miles per hour, are possible throughout the day.
Trimmers took down branches on the still fully-leafed trees that line 10 Avenue in Belmar, leaving less opportunity for any gusty winds to possibly cause power outages.
DPW workers got the word to hit the streets bright and early, while the weather stays calm, to take care of the trees and flush out storm drains.
“Don’t let your guard down,” says Belmar Councilman Jim McCracken. “Tie down loose furniture, bring in decorations and be mindful. We are looking at real strong winds and a lot of heavy rain later on today.”
In Neptune Township, the main concern is a higher than normal tide on the Shark River combining with heavy rainfall.
“Around 9:30 tonight, it will be high tide, little higher than normal, if we have heavy rainfall at that period it will delay the water running off the street into the river,” says Neptune Township OEM Mike Bascom. “So that will cause some roadway flooding.”
