Dozens of fellow officers show up to support fired Wayne Police Officer Eric Ferschman
Dozens of police officers from all over New Jersey showed up at a Wayne Township Council meeting Wednesday to show their support for a Wayne Township police officer fired last month.
Erik Ferschman was reportedly fired for neglecting his duties. It was alleged that he was dining with other officers at the Park Wayne Diner in November 2015 and didn't respond to a police call with enough urgency.
The New Jersey State PBA called for officers to show up Wednesday night because it felt that Ferschman did not get full due process before he was fired.
The Wayne Township attorney says that an investigation was done into the incident surrounding the officer, as well as a hearing.
"We're not going to comment on it, it's a pending legal action," says township attorney Matthew Giacobbe. "What we will do is we'll defend the township, the administration's decision in superior court. The place for this dialogue to take place is in superior court."
But the state PBA says that he did not get a true and fair hearing. They emphasized that issue is their true concern in this matter.
"They didn't give him a fair hearing. That's why we're here; not because of his charges but the way they fired him," says PBA Executive Vice President Marc Kovar.
Ferschman did not comment at the meeting and referred all questions to his attorney.
