Authorities in Morris County are trying to find the person responsible for damaging a historic train car that was in the process of being restored.

Officials in Boonton say that the vandal struck sometime last week and broke the windows of a luxury railroad car positioned at a railyard. The car is owned by the Whippany Railway Museum.

Officials say that someone used rocks to smash the windows of the car. Some of the windows were new and part of the restoration. But some of the windows were the original ones from 1912.

The train ran from 1912 until 1984. It was kept in storage for several years until members of the museum began to renovate it.

Terence Mulligan with the Whippany Railway says that it will be difficult to replace the 13 windows that were damaged.

Officials are now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. There is also a GoFundMe page for people who wish to donate to help restore the car.

This is not the first time vandals have struck at the railyard. Vandals spray-painted several train cars at the yard a little more than two years ago.
