Morris County prosecutors announced the finding on Wednesday, saying the 27-year-old Rockaway Township man died of drowning.
The victim and a 26-year-old Rockaway man were in the canoe when it capsized early Sunday on White Meadow Lake. Rockaway police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. and were able to rescue the 26-year-old man, who was treated at a hospital and later released.
The victim's body was found in the lake Tuesday morning.
The names of the two men have not been released.
Authorities have not said what caused the canoe to capsize.
