The Hofstra University student who claimed she was gang raped by five men, three of them from the Bronx, recanted her story Wednesday, resulting in the dismissal of all charges against the suspects, authorities say.
The 18-year-old student told members of Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice's office that Sunday's sexual encounter was consensual. A judge ordered the immediate release of the four men.
The woman initially claimed that Rondell Bedward, a Hofstra University student from the Bronx, Jesus Ortiz, Kevin Taveras and Stalin Felipe lured her out of a campus nightclub, tied her up and raped her in a dormitory bathroom.
Taveras has worked for Cablevision's information technology department since 2007, his lawyer says. Cablevision is the parent company of News 12 The Bronx.
Rice said in a statement her office is considering filing charges against the woman for making a false statement to police.
The university has suspended the student who made the claims, and lifted the suspension on Bedward.
