A Woodland Park Cub Scout troop is doing their part for the community by collecting donations to help those affected by this weekend’s flooding.
The members of Pack 31 say that they were lucky, as none of their families or homes were impacted by the flooding that hit their town hard. But they say that they want to help their neighbors.
“It’s upsetting to the children to know other kids have lost their stuff and lost homes and toys and we wanted to help anyway we could,” says cub master John Brost.
The troop started to collect cleaning supplies like bleach, paper towels, brooms and mops – anything that can help Woodland park and other nearby communities clean up following the flooding.
“There's been lots of monetary damage and damage you can't see. People living in shelters and trying to get their lives back together,” says troop parent Jim Parkerton. “We are here to collect donations and cleaning supplies…however we can help.”
The mayor of Woodland Park says that more than 200 homes and 70 businesses were damaged – including the Girls and Boys Club where Pack 31 is based.
“I feel bad for those who are affected in the flood and I feel good helping them,” says 9-year-old Brayden McGovern.
The donation drive is being held at the American Legion Hall, which is donating the space. Supplies and donations can be dropped off Wednesday and Thursday night.
