The U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to take on New Jersey's truck regulation case will keep the big rigs rolling on local roads throughout the state.

A federal court ruled the state's regulation that forced trucks to stay on major highways was unconstitutional because it discriminated against out-of-state trucks. One area affected by the ruling is downtown Chatham Borough. According to borough officials, one of the problems the area faces is trucks getting stuck underneath a particular bridge. And for café owner Andrew Copp, all of the noise from the trucks rumbling by keeps him from setting up outdoor seating.

The state's transportation commissioner says he hopes to draft new rules that will cut down on truck traffic on local roads and fit within the federal regulations.
