Gov. Jon Corzine signed a more than $33 billion budget Thursday afternoon after he used his line item veto power.
This year?s budget signing was a far cry from last year?s stalemate. Corzine said this is the earliest approval he can find in history. Corzine added that he is happy with the budget.
?The outcome some will say is not perfect, but I say it?s real progress on the path to restoring New Jersey?s fiscal integrity,? Corzine said.
This year?s budget includes no tax increases and boosts property tax relief. However, not everyone is benefiting from the budget. Corzine vetoed 66 different items from the budget, cutting more than $10 million. Most of the items were requests from lawmakers directing funding to various organizations in their districts.
?When you do line item and you look at them individually, you struggle because so many of them go to the heart of our social services,? Corzine said.
