New Jersey has more than 14,000 contaminated sites, which makes choosing the right place to live somewhat difficult for some residents.

To help make sure a resident makes an informed decision, the Environmental Protection Agency has tools on its website that provide information about all the contaminated sites and what is being done to clean them up.

In Ringwood, many homeowners are upset about contamination at the old Ford Motor Company site. There is much debate over how the cleanup should be done, like whether contaminated soil should be removed or just capped off with a barrier.

On the EPA's "Cleanups in my Community" website, the agency says human exposure in Ringwood is not under control, but groundwater contamination is.

In Edison, there was a contaminated site from an old chemical insecticide plant. According to the EPA's website, construction on the site is complete and all contaminates are under control. The property will now be used to set up a dog park.

The information about each of the contaminated sites comes directly from the federal government.
