Every part of New Jersey is seeing a resurgence of coronavirus cases, after a total of more than 2,200 cases were reported over the weekend.
The state is now reporting more than 220,000 cases of coronavirus, including 1,282 Sunday -- only the second time the state has seen a day over 1,000 since May.
Five counties reported at least 100 new cases each Sunday, while 11 counties reported at least 50 new cases each. Every county in the state reported at least two new cases.
Thanksgiving is a little over a month away and many people are thinking about the holidays. Doctors say some people have become more relaxed through the summer months, but it's still important to remember wearing masks and social distancing.
"We're still doing generally a pretty good job,” says Dr. Daniel Varga, chief physician executive at Hackensack Meridian Health. “It's just one of those things of really minding your p's and q's and not getting laxed just simply because it looks like, you know, even if there is rain, it’s not really heavy. You know, we don't want this to turn into a storm, right?"
Dr. Varga says thankfully, Hackensack University Medical Center isn't seeing as many cases as it did during its peak in April, and patients aren't staying as long as they were at the time.
The state's rate of transmission is 1.15, and that number is headed down over the past couple of weeks. Anything over one means the virus is still spreading.
