A new study suggests that New Jersey may be the most at-risk state in the country for coastal flooding.

Climate Central meteorologist Sean Sublette says there has been a rapid increase in the amount of flooding near the Jersey Shore.

"It's the amount of flooding that doesn't do phenomenal damage to houses but it does do incremental damage to infrastructure," Sublette says.

Coastal flooding days from regular high tides have doubled in the last three decades and sea levels have risen above 7 inches over the last century.

Some projections show an additional 1 to 2 feet of sea level rise by 2050.

Numbers from Climate Central also show that 1 in 10 homes in New Jersey are at risk for coastal flooding.

Sublette says even homes on the bayside will have to deal with flooding.

There have been buyout offers for homeowners in floodplains but property values have kept most residents from selling.
